Is B&Q own brand paint any good?

I need to repaint our bathroom, and I can't find a Dulux colour I like. I'm after a lightish Eau de Nil. The one in there at the moment is Laura Ashley - nice colour, but absolutely shite paint. I've seen a B&Q one I like and just wondered if they're reasonable quality?

No, is the answer. When I bought some, even the B&Q assistant said it was "crap". She was right.

I have used their emulsion (not bathroom) and it was fine. I have heard others say they're crap.

Buy a sample, paint it on some card, take painted card to Dulux mix point thingy and ask them to match it

Johnson's paint is reputed to be OK. I would use Crown or Dulux and def. use a bathroom paint.

I've just used it in my bathroom and am really pleased with it. Probably could have got away with one coat but did 2 and it looks very good. Also got some of their wood paint and thats been good too

It was taking so many coats to cover the old paint colour that I gave up and went and bought a can of Crown, which managed it in 2 coats.

And the B and Q stuff smelt horrible.

I use the b&q colours in silk and think it's good. Can usually get away with one coat but have always done two.

Not in my experience ... I bought one of their colours and it took 11 coats before I gave up on the finish.

I've used it and had no complaints. The kitchen paint in a pale green went on easily and wore well. I painted two walls in a large bedroom in a dark berry colour and it went on well - unlike a similar Dulux feature wall paint which is still patchy if you look closely after about 5 coats!

I found it very patchy. Needed quite a few coats to get even finish. Would never buy again.

I've used their matt emulsion with no issues. We've just done our kitchen in their kitchen paint as it was the only range with be right colour shade we wanted, it's gone on fine and looks lovely.

Johnstones paint is really good quality and recommened by painter and decorators. I think they can colour match any colour, so you can take in the swatch of the one you like and they will mix it.

We have just painted our kitchen (well a decorator did) and one wall had a really bright bright red colour that I thought would be a nightmare to cover , but 2 costs of a pale green and you would never know it was ever red.

Get Johnstones to colour match the Laura Ashley colour?

Not in our experience, it is thin and watery and needed about 3 good coats before it looked half decent, we haven't bothered since and have used Dulux.

God no! It’s like water and you need a good couple of coats. Dulux, Johnson or Crown are the best I find.

Agree with Johnstone's being good. I have got them to colour-match F&B several times!

I've discovered my local Brewer's decorating centre. Take your B&Q or LA colour and they'll match it in Dulux trade paint. It is more expensive though.

I found Crown bathroom colours nicer than Dulux.

I've had Laura Ashley paint colour matched in Valspar at B&Q and it's been great.
