Building contract - do I need one

Finally think I’ve found a Builder. Do I need a contract or some form of written agreement pls?

If you can get them to sign one do it - most builders won't however unless it's a commercial build but if you feel this builder is good perhaps they will. It will protect you and help to iron any issue out that arise during the build.

I did one for a loft conversion.
I found it on the chartered surveyor website, it was about £20, and it was worth every penny!
When he went off the boil (like they do when they want to do another job) he didn't get paid till certain milestones had been reached!
And I didn't look like an idiot cos he'd signed it,
