Door handle jammed

Something has fallen over behind my door and has landed under the door handle, so I can't open the door.

Any ideas how I can fix this?

Are you trapped in a room? Are there any tools in it?

Look under the handle there should be a grub screw. Loosen it and remove the handle.
Then push the square bar through so the other handle falls off into the cupboard together with the bar.
Then borrow the bar and handle off another door, and insert the bar into the square hole, then turn to open the door.
Now your can get the original handle back and reassemble everything.

if something has fallen against the lever handle on the other side, you only need to remove the screws on the rose on your side of the door, pull the handle off, and pull the square spindle towards you enough that it no longer engages in the square hole in the handle on the other side. With luck there will not be a grubscrew on the other side (they are more common on knobs)

If there is a grubscrew on the other side, you will not be able to pull the spindle out so you can try John's method of bashing the spindle to try to break the other handle out. It looks to me like the door is a hollow one made of pressed hardboard (is it very light?) in which case the screws will bash out fairly easily. You will need a hammer.

Did you get in or out OP?

This happened to me once (ironing board behind the door fell) and I couldn’t get in the kitchen and I had stuff on the stove. I didn’t know what to do and just shoved as hard as I could to squeeze in. Scared me!

Hope you managed to fix it.

Ah yes some handles the handle is part of the but you screw and the bar is loose. You'd be unlucky if there's also a grub screw in that case.
I wasn't suggesting to break anything-ours are purely held by the grub screw and the rose bit is just screwed to the door on its own.
