Grumpy neighbours building an extension

Found out via FB last night that our grumpy next door neighbours are building an extension. We knew the house was too small for them and hoped they’d move but they’re obviously staying :(

Haven’t heard anything from the council yet so no idea when they’re due to start building but I know (again through FB stalking) that they had the plans drawn up in Feb/March and are now looking for a builder.

It’s going to be a nightmare keeping our dogs quiet and stopping them from barking all the time.

Any suggestions on how to keep the peace with neighbours who hate us and who complain every damn time the dogs so much as woof?

Check the online planning site of your council and see what planning permission they have, you should have received something in the post from planning telling you what's going on and you can appeal/commment etc - check on line though it's all on there and you can comment

Unfortunately our council isn’t very modern and don’t have an online planning portal (we’re not in the UK). I’ve called the council and will be getting a call back tomorrow about their plans and what’s going on.

As much as I don’t like the neighbours they will have submitted a development application as they won’t do anything illegal as it would jeopardise their position as ‘those neighbours that complain about every little thing the rest of the street do that’s wrong’ with the council.

I’m more inclined to think the council messed up and didn’t send out the planning notifications - they’re really useless lol.

Of course this would all be easier if they were the sort of people we could talk to but they’re not :(

Spoke to the council yesterday and no development application has been lodged. They say it could be because it comes under our equivalent of permitted development and can be privately certified but we should still be told before they commence the build.

All we can do now is make plans to secrion off the back garden (which is huge) so the dogs don’t have access to the adjoining fence and can be brought in the house easier. DD2 is also making plans to love out if needed during the build process so she can study. Builders can work 7am-6pm Monday- Friday and 8am-1pm on a Saturday so it’s going to be a nightmare. It’s such a quiet area (counted 6 cars going past yesterday) and the noise will disturb everyone (except the neighbours as they will move out to her parents during the building).

The builders are not always making noise - brick laying is quiet eg and once they come inside you wont hear them. They can work those hours but they might not. Ours didn't work that late, always gone by 5pm usually. It wont last forever!
