Relocating to Cheshire/wirral/north wales

Hi, my hubby has just got a job in Broughton (North Wales/ chester border), and we’re trying to decide where to find a house. I think our criteria might be a little too picky!

We’d like to ideally be around a half hour drive max from Broughton. We have 3 kids who are going to need to slot into a primary school (so school will probably have to be undersubscribed), we’d like good primary/ high school, and somewhere with a nice community, but where we can get to Chester easily by public transport- my eldest is 10 so I don’t want to be somewhere too remote.

We like Neston but i’m worried it’s too difficult to get to Chester via public transport, and also liked Tarporley but again, it’s a bit too far. I have no ideas as to places closer to Chester. Any help would be appreciated, we’re panicking slightly!

Look in Hawarden, I'd love to live there. Or Broughton itself.

Thanks Troels, I did like Hawarden- how are links to Chester? Are the school ok? X

You'd have to look at the OFSTED for the schools. We never went there. My grandfather lived there we loved visiting, then a friend in college lived there and we'd go to her place too.
Oldest son lived in Broughton for a while and liked it He moved to west cheshire to be closer to work. I like shopping there.
It's easy enough to jump on the A55 from Hawarden or Broughton to get into Chester quite quickly (unless it's prime commute time)

There's a regular bus route between Chester and Hawarden. Road links are excellent too.
Hawarden primary is over subbed but good reputation...That as a couple of others close to Ewloe way that are good too. I think the high school in Buckley is better than Hawarden but that's not over subscribed and the same bus runs that way too. Can you tell who's been looking into moving into this area too Grin

Christleton is very nice, if a little expensive, and though they are very good I believe the schools are currently full. Traffic allowing you can get to Broughton (Airbus) along the A55 in about 20 minutes. There's a Park and Ride which has buses into the centre every 10 minutes.

One thing that may or may not matter to you is that if send your DC to a school in Wales then they will be required to learn Welsh.

One thing with Neston is during the summer you get a lot of midges, one of my family teaches there and says the children get eaten alive!

If you're looking at Wirral, try Bebington/Spital. Lots of nearby green space, good primary schools (don't know if oversubscribed though), direct and frequent train link to both Liverpool and Chester, nice area. For high schools it's an 11plus area - that may be a plus or a minus depending on your views! Easy access to M53 too.
