After v expensive quote from Howdens, now have more affordable or higher spec quote from Benchmarx for their Somerset kitchen in olive green. Has anyone had this installed?

I have it in grey, what do you want to know?

Are you happy with it? I was initially going to be going for a cheaper door but really loved the pale green colour and the fact that it is a timber frame. What kind of worktop did you go for? Would you recommend Benchmarx?

I do like mine a lot. It looks good & cleans easily. It’s only been put in recently but the quality seems good. My builder did grumble about their hinge for cabinets that open upwards, he thinks they aren’t as good as another he has used.

We have granite worktop on our back run and walnut on our island.

I would recommend Benchmarx with caveats. Our kitchen did not come well packaged, few protective wrappings and they didn’t have a wrap on the doors like others I have seen. Which means a lot of cleaning! Our first sink was broken as they literally just put a ceramic sink in a cardboard box. Nothing to cushion it. We did get it swapped quickly and with no fuss. But after spending so much a bit of care would have been nice.

If you can get them to give you a door to take home I would. The green is lovely but does change shade in different lights, as does our grey. It might look very duffeeent in your house.

Here’s a pic of mine. Oh Benchmarx are good on appliances, they price matched everything I gave them and I hunted out bargains.

Thank you. Your kitchen looks lovely! Good idea about the door colour. I hadn't considered getting appliances from there but will have a look at how they compare. They are pushing me to take kitchen by end of month to get extra money off.

I have one. Think the colour is called bone white ? Have had it for 2 years and it still looks lovely. I only use got water with a squirt of Fairy liquid to clean door fronts and they clean up well. Had a carpenter make some additional non standard sized units painted to match, and he made oak worktop too. We only got the units from Benchmarx, got the appliances elsewhere.

Hi All

I'm looking to buy a somerset kitchen range with units and worktop for £4786, they are reducing it to £4300 this does not include any applicances. The flooring is an additional £280

Is this a Good price? May I ask what you all paid? Should I negotiate down further??

Our kitchen is small - medium so not very large

Thank you in advance

We are in the process of getting quotes and designs ourselves. Not exactly what you have asked, but a builder relative recommended benchmarx, as he has installed them many times and rarely have issues. He said wren were overpriced and poor quality.

We had a basic design plan from howdens, but didn't like the door options which looked cheap. Another company I'd never heard of till last week are crown imperial. They are sold through Brewers paint shops, but you might be able to approach them independently. The reviews on MN were positive and they seem long lasting. It might be another company to consider.

Also, the consultant we saw today, said that they basically cant compete with appliances online and other online shops, so certainly worth comparing prices and consider buying seperately.

Ell48 · 18/10/2021 22:27

Thanks for your response. Does your builder know what discounts benchmarx will give and will they negotiate? I know they are cheaper than howdens etc usually. Im trying to negotiate with Benchmarx and hes asking for my howdens quote so he can give like for like but I dont want to. I've given him the price I want and I'm hoping he'll allow it. Its about 12/1e units in total, 17 handles.

Ell48 · 18/10/2021 22:28

No applicances just units, worktop and sink. Soft close so I know that's extra

Intact I'll copy and paste here

Hairyfriend · 18/10/2021 22:41

Sorry, I don't know about negotiating and what they might take off. Are you needing cabinets in a utility also? There is no harm in asking for a discount if you are needing more than just in the kitchen, or just asking in general. I know some places won't discount the overall cost, but might include things for 'free'. Ex displays are another option.

You can also buy handles separately. Someone else on MN said they spent more for nice handles, because that is what people focus on more than the door apparently.
