Full laminate upstand in Kitchen anyone?

Kitchen refurb, I have an open plan lounge/kitchen with Kitchen units along the full length of the shortest wall. Going to be white units/white laminate floor and thinking of using the same laminate upstand as the worktop along the full height/length of the units instead of tiling with a glass splash back over the laminate behind the hob.

Has anyone done this? Any regrets?

Seems like a lot of white.

I’m currently planning a new kitchen, in the brochure it has worktop upstands instead of tiles so it’s obviously a current theme

It does sound a lot of white though, we have a white kitchen and I hate it, it shows every spot of dirt but it’s your choice

I have grey laminate worktop and matching upstand, with clear glass splashback behind hob. I hate tiles! Worktop matches Karndean flooring and units are cream. I love my look but several friends have expressed surprised that a) I didn't get a more expensive worktop b) that there's no tiles around the sink.

Your plan does sound very white! But it will look stunning Smile

I also went for an laminate upstand, but only the short one. I didn't want tiles as I don't want to be tied to a colour or theme for the many years that the kitchen will be there. We've painted the kitchen in washable neutral paint at the moment and we'll change the colour at some point.

We have the laminate upstand the same as the worktop, it’s a kind of wood effect. Love it.

It's been white laminate with white cupboards and white walls for the last 18 years 😁. Currently dark worktop and coloured splashback but quite like the idea of a mid tone worktop and back to match. No dirty tile grout....

Bakedbeans that's what I'm hoping!

I have laminate upstands in the same laminate as the worktop. They are great. Easy to clean and look good. I think it's a popular choice.

I have that at the moment and am about to do the same in my new kitchen.
It's very practical and easy to clean and looks good too.

Oo KanielOtis who supplied the laminate. Currently looking at Duopal but they don't quite do the sizes I need so I possibly wouldn't get the laminate to go up to the underside of the extractor without 2 sheets and a join either side of the hob.

The whole kitchen is Wren. The laminate came in one huge piece and was cut to size on site. No joins except for the corners of the room.

We do have one join on ours as the wall was longer than the length of the cladding. It’s ok though.
