Suggest a plant for my bathroom

Just had a nice new bathroom installed, it's pale grey with slate grey floor. I'd like to put some plants in there to add colour and soak up moisture
What type of plants would live well in a bathroom? I'm not keen on cacti.

Ferns are good in bathrooms as they like moisture, we had a Peace Lily do really well in a bathroom and orchids like a warm, moist atmosphere - but not draughts.

We have an Aloe Vera plant in ours and it's surviving very well despite me being not remotely green fingered!

Glad of this thread - my bathroom is lacking greenery but wasn't sure what to put in there. I'm loving the suggestions so far, particularly the aloe Vera

Spider plant

angelroad · 05/05/2018 09:44

I've got a very happy Calathea in mine!

Spider plants are indestructible - great suggestion if you are likely to forget to water plants!

Apparently aloe vera is known as 'the plant of immortality' because it's difficult to kill! I find I don't need to water it a great deal because of the moisture in the bathroom plus it's great on minor skin injuries and insect bites!

We have a peace lily in our bathroom and that seems quite happy. Spider plant would be another good one to have.

Another vote for peace Lilly - mind if you have cats as poisonous

Thanks for the suggestions! Just need to Google image to find out what I'm looking for!

Aloe Vera are very easy to keep. Apparently ivy is very good for absorbing mould spores so I thinking of getting one for our bathroom soon.

mumonashoestring · 05/05/2018 20:51

My orchids love their spot on the bathroom windowsill - they don't get too many extremes of temperature, they get misted every time someone has a hot shower, and I water/feed them once a week at the most so they're pretty undemanding.

EnriqueTheRingBearingLizard · 05/05/2018 20:55

It depends what kind of shapes and form you like.

I like ferns
Although Maidenhair isn't mentioned there and that does well in a bathroom environment.

wombatron · 05/05/2018 20:56

I have a corn plant in mine. He's survived well since summer last year with minimal care!

greathat · 05/05/2018 20:58

we have a peace lily :) Just go and look in IKEA :D

I was going to post the same thing. I wanted very green and was thinking cactus so some good ideas here. How do succulents do in a bathroom? Is that even the right word?

greathat · 06/05/2018 09:51

Succulents like it bright and dry so may not be ideal
