Shit Solicitors !

Am in last stages of purchasing a house. Am in touch with the vendor direct as we swapped mobile no's. My solicitors in the meantime have had a couple of staff leave the practice and conveyancing is being done by locum. Vendor says they are ready to exchange but cannot contact my solicitor, they don't return calls. They don't return my calls either. Afraid they are going to muck things up! Who should I call if I cant get any word from them??

When you instructed the solicitors you should have received their terms and conditions and various other documents. They will tell you who you should contact if you are not happy. It is likely to be the practice manager or managing partner. If you cannot find the paperwork, ring the practice and ask the person who answers who you need to speak with as an unhappy client.

Get the estate agents to chase the solicitor. They could be waitng for some further information - in my experience they are bad at updating people so you have to keep chasing for information.

Still same situation 20 days later and am in danger of losing house! All others in chain have been ready to complete for ages. My solicitor has been "sorting out" an indemnity policy for almost a month! Last time I spoke to him saying I was at risk of losing house, he told me I was being bullied and I had to wait, and let him do his job...he has other clients too! If my chain breaks, do I still have to pay this tw@ even if it's his fault ?

At point now where the receptionist just puts me through to the answerphone to leave a message...no one calls back! I guess I will write a letter to senior partner next.

Indemnity policy should be sortable in a matter of hours.

I think you need to be getting in touch with the Solicitors Regulatoon Authority at this point.

Could you go and see a new solicitor and ask them to advise perhaps?

Are you using a high street solicitor or one of these conveyancing services located hundreds of miles away? If the solicitor is local, I would turn up on their doorstep and not leave until someone speaks to you. Also, as a couple of people said, have you checked the Ts&Cs from the solicitors which will tell you who you may complain to? Have you ever used these solicitors before, is this behaviour out of character for them?

Nevertwerknaked the SRA are not the appropriate body for complaints. The op needs to follow the complaints procedure in the t n c of the firm, then if issue not remedied, or resolved, or there has been a loss it is the legal ombudsm an which is the complaints body. Best to have a go at the managing partner.

When my parents bought their house. Their vendor had exactly same issue. As others suggested he went and sat in his solicitors office until they sorted situation out. Even if they are far away, if you can, I’d be getting in the car and going to see them.
