Our solicitor is causing delay. Can I ask for a discount?

Hi all. We are buying a house and our solicitor is, in my opinion, very lazy. I have to call him every week to make him work. When I didn't, no work was done. Even estate agent complaint to me and asked me to chase my own solicitor. Today, I learned that he usually replied to the other party after a couple of days, however, he keeps telling me that the vendor is the one not responding. So far, I think he caused us around 3 weeks of delay. We are dissatisfied with his work and now we should pay him 1k without VAT and searches. Is it enough to ask for a discount? Yes, he is slow but he did the job. I am not sure as I heard stories much worse than mine.

When solicitor sends a letter of engagement for you to sign when taking him on, there should also be details of complaints procedure - I would have thought this would be the best place to start. You seem to be saying he is actually lying to which is very serious so I'd definitely look into making a formal complaint and get some discount this way.
