Advice please on Installing new over cooker mantel with extractor

Has anyone done this? I have horrible cooker hood that keeps gauging me in the eye - before having kitchen cabinets painted want to install an over cooker mantel with extractor. Do not know where to begin!! Firstly do I need a carpenter/electrician or plumber to choose/install extractor? And do mantels come ready made or carpenter to make one? (Not buying new kitchen but having painted v solid oak one).

Do you mean like these in the pics? I want to change our stainless steel extractor to something like the ones in the pics. I'm not sure who to get either.

Is it an extractor?

I usually say cooker hoods should be fitted high enough that you can't hit them with your face or head.

Elica have a big range, but their website is awful so ask them to send you the glossy brochure.

Some fit into a wall cabinet/bridging unit attached to the wall above the cooker. Preferably wider than the hob. A carpenter can make one to suit, or you can order one from a kitchen unit company. A matching unit door in the front will blend it in.
