Kitchen island to match Ikea kitchen

Any kitchen island suggestions? I don't know where to start really.

We've previously had an Ikea kitchen and were really happy with it, so we're going to go down that route again.

As you can tell our budget isn't particularly big.

The plan is to source the worktop independently and use the same worktop to cover the island. Is this even possible?

Please help! I'm a complete island novice.

Buy ikea kitchen units, screw them together, add worktop, job done.

We added an island to match a Wickes kitchen. 2 double cupboards, back & side boards and a solid wooden worksurface on top. Our builder put it together and secured it to the floor. Fitted cost less than 1k

IKEA can definitely do kitchen islands.

Okay, so it seems I am highlighting just how much of a novice I am! I had no idea islands were simply made up from existing cabinets stuck together.

Does sourcing counters become more tricky then? Will you almost alway shave to buy them bespoke to fit dimensions? Ikea for example, only do counters around 70cm in width.

we did exactly what geneticsbunny suggested. We bought 2 units and 2 sets of drawers, fastened them all together and bought a custom wooden worktop from Ikea (that was the expensive bit!) we've been really happy with it.

Any chance of seeing a pic user?

How big is your island going to be. It's just that if you have a social house they will take a battering from people leaning on them.
Islands are normal cupboards screwed into the floor. If they are small it doesn't take long for them to become loose and break.
We wanted one and didn't for that reason. Plus you need a large spacious kitchen as you'll be walking round it constantly and getting on each other's nerves.

Ikea is a bit unusual in that it will only sell one width of worktop unless you go custom. A lot of other places will also do 90cmish as standard - 60cm for cabinet side and 30cm for breakfast bar side. If you want something bigger then you might have to get it made.

Sorry for the slowest response ever. Thank you very much for sharing this user. This is essentially what I am after, just slightly bigger and with a different countertop.

Complete novice as I said!

I think on the website you can have a play around with all the different configurations, on the other side we have some lovely, big drawers for the pans and a pull out spice rack which I love.

Look for breakfast bar counter tops

They are wider than normal ones - might find one you're after
