Laundry room

Can anyone tell me if moving a washing machine is hard?
I’m sure it’s reasonably easy but DH is saying there is more to it. I want to move it to the garage to create more room in the kitchen and make a laundry room area.

Is there a water supply and plumbing for a waste pipe?

PrimalLass · 27/04/2018 07:16

I think you need to give more information OP.

Is there any risk of pipes freezing in winter?

Fishface77 · 27/04/2018 07:23

The pipes would be ok and it has a water supply.
The waste might be a problem. I supposed we’d have to dig for a drain.
I hate having dirty washing in the kitchen.

They are incredibly heavy, is that what he meant?

Fishface77 · 27/04/2018 07:47

No I think he means things like waste pipes and water supply.
Water supply isn’t an issue but I think the waste pipes might take a lot of work.

You need water and a waste outlet.

I moved mine but luckily there was a drain just the other side of the wall where I wanted it moved to.

Get a plumber, or2, to give free estimate?

Callmecordelia · 27/04/2018 09:26

I moved mine out of the kitchen and into the garage. I have a tumble dryer next to it, and a drying rack over the top. It is lovely. There was a waste pipe in the garage already right next to where I wanted it to go, and we could put a water supply in from the en-suite taking the pipe under the stairs. It was about a day's work for the plumber.

It wasn't hard to move it - we would have moved the integrated washer into the garage at some point as they don't need to be in a cupboard, but then it packed up, so it forced our hand. We got the old one removed and a freestanding one delivered straight to the garage.

In the place of the washing machine I got a floor put into the cupboard and installed some amazing pull out bins and a bag for the recycling. It has freed up a load of floor space in our small kitchen. One of the best things we have ever done in this house.
