Gloss or matt white kitchen?

I am looking for a new kitchen. I have been offered a very reasonable quote for a gloss one but not sure if I like it. What I really want is something hardwearing.( Yes I know white is not ideal from the cleaning point of view)

i went matt just from personal preference and it seems so much better at avoiding finger prints from my previous experience with gloss kitchens.

That is what I think but is matt cheaper or more expensive?

Matte

Sorry posted too soon, just from point of view of sticky fingers

In theory if you went to a paint sprayer the Matt finish would be cheaper.

But in general the costs from generic kitchen manufactures don't differ much between Matt or gloss as the gloss finishes are often laminate rather than painted.

We have a gloss kitchen in our new house and although it looks beautiful, it is an ARSE to keep on top of. It shows up every smear, speck of dust, tiny fingerprint, everything. I would have to polish it a few times a day to keep it perfect (I don’t!). I had a similar matte kitchen in my old house and it was much less work!

Matt.

Aside from the upkeep issues, gloss is a trend that's jumped the shark I think.

Matt. Gloss is over.

DozyDoates · 23/04/2018 20:26

Matte, I think gloss would show every single smudge and smear, you'd forever be polishing it!

Smeddum · 23/04/2018 20:27

@DozyDoates it does Sad

Matte.

Gloss will age quickly, it's very 'of its time'

I have gloss and love it. I have a dog and a toddler. Its wipe clean. Just like Matt. I have no issues

We have matte in the kitchen and gloss in the utility. Cupboards in utility room constantly covered in fingerprints, and natural light shows up every mark. Cupboards in kitchen always look clean. Both just as easy to clean, but gloss cupboards relentless whereas matte can be done once in a while.

We have a gloss kitchen but it's 10 years old. A quick wipe of any sticky patches with soapy water when I wipe down the worktops is all it takes. I quite like that the muck dies show because it makes it easier to zap it before it gets worse.

Matte white, as close to timeless as modern kitchens get.
