What colour scheme/carpet

Planning to get the living room window changed and update the room in the next few months.

Really fancy the sofa and chair below. The formal back sofa, not the cushiony one. But can’t decide on the grey or the duck egg?

What’s everyone’s thoughts? And what colour scheme and carpet colour would look good? Grey is the obvious choice, but not sure about grey sofa and grey carpet?

Any suggestions welcome for everything - curtains, accessories, anything.

If you went for both grey sofa and carpet, you'd need to check they matched in tone, not ending up with one blue grey and one broeney grey.

Grey with a darker grey carpet.

I really like the grey. But when grey first became a thing, I hated the idea. I’m worried that’s it’s taken so long to grow on me, that I’m coming in at the coo’s tail and my living room will look dated a year from now.

Do you have small kids and or dogs? If not, what about a cream carpet?

ISeeTheLight · 23/04/2018 22:21

I'd go for wooden floors with that. But I'm not a fan of carpets in general.

A 13 yo, but frequent small and messy visitors. Anyway, I made the mistake of getting a cream bedroom carpet years ago, as it was the only carpet I could pick “just for me” and I wrecked it Blush

Wooden flooring with a big rug would be lovely, but seems a hassle and I’m worried I wouldn’t feel “cosy” with it. Plus could be very noisy for my downstairs neighbour.

What about navy blue? Light grey furniture and an off white on the walls.

If you're worried about noise you could have a wood-look vinyl floor. We've got vinyl and it's very hard to see it's not real wood. With a rug it'd be lovely and cosy.

I lived with navy blue carpet for over a decade. It's a bastard to keep looking clean

GaryBaldyBiscuit · 24/04/2018 07:50

That’s a very light grey, I’d go for the duck egg as less likely to show up dirt. Floors I’d go for wood or textured beige carpet like malabar carpet (but synthetic one as easy to clean) then the curtains can be light grey as less likely to get dirty.

Lots of flats have on leasehold that hard floors only in hallway

naebotherpal · 24/04/2018 17:02

I’m in Scotland, no leasehold.

I can imagine navy would be a nightmare to keep clean, though could look good with the grey and another colour thrown in.

Had a look just now at the vinyl on Karndean. Maybe doable. Just got a bit of a mental block about that in the living room!

Saying all this, I think I’ve misinterpreted the DFS description. Thought that sofa came apart, but now I don’t think so. In which case it’s too big to manoeuvre into my living room anyway Sad
