See through fence

Help, my husband has been replacing our fence and I have noticed I can see straight through to my nosey neighbours garden. The photo is the view from my kitchen door. He says nothing can be done. Any ideas how it can be rectified?

You want a wooden rail half way up an nail the planks onto that. like this

Moppet5 · 20/04/2018 12:20

It already has them on the back. The fence on that side is the responsibility of the neighbours but they weren't replacing the broken panels so DH said he would replace them if we had "the good side"

Can he put the panels the other way up so the gaps are only visible looking towards the house or is it the same from the other angle? The wood will expand when wet too so should be less noticeable.

Moppet5 · 20/04/2018 12:36

No gaps the other way, was just hoping that there was an easier remedy!

And it's individual planks so not a quick job 😩

Could you not just put a couple of screws in to attach the plank to the one below?

Moppet5 · 20/04/2018 13:20

That's what I asked him DancingQueen but he said no! A screen could work while waiting for some climbing plants to grow

Hmmm. Okay, what about expanding foam?

wowfudge · 20/04/2018 16:32

Expanding foam? I hope that's a joke.

I can't zoom in what has he made the fence from? Featherboard (close board?) They overlap and you can't see through them.

We have chevron fencing which has actual stick your hand through gaps between the planks. Dh put a rail across the middle of the fence and used overlapped featherboard for complete privacy as we are a corner plot so our garden is next to the pavement.

Is your Dh usually good at DIY stuff?

InTheRoseGarden · 21/04/2018 07:13

Rip it out and start again. I couldn't live with that!

Moppet5 · 21/04/2018 08:29

Yes he is normally good at diy and enjoys doing it. The problem is he doesn’t have enough time and also takes ages getting around to it but that’s another story!

Your DH says nothing can be done. It can, he’ll have to do it again.

Thank you all for your replies. I came home after being out for the day to find he has redone it to face the other way, the bowing ones have been replaced so it looks good from the other direction too. Now just to replace the climbers!
