Anyone built a simple alcove wardrobe?

Been quoted £700 plus £300 to paint it, to make a simple, minimalistic wardrobe in an alcove side of a chimney breast, floor to ceiling, with two big deep shelves and one hanging rail.

How hard can it be to make a frame and hang four doors from it? Is it realy worth £1000?

Wondering if anyone on MN has built her own simple wardrobe.

If you have decent DIY skills you could do a half way house and use one of the DIY companies where you measure, they send and you assemble?

FYI I have not done this or used this company, it is just an example.

I bought a kit from Amazon, double sided wardrobe with two sliding mirrored doors. It was pretty easy to fit but I needed my dad to help as I couldn't have done it on my own, too heavy!!

We built two alcove wardrobes ourselves using reclaimed cupboard doors. We’re not joiners, just diy-ers and we managed fine. Cost no more than £100 in timber and paint and looks ace.

How deep is the alcove?

Ikea Pax? Depending on the size you might find it fits almost perfectly?

Thanks for replies so far, I will look into all the above suggestions.
