Hello, renovating our 1980s house and want to change the fireplace, there’s no internal chimney breast (the chimney is external) we want to take out the old fire and build an internal faux chimney breast to give it a bit of cHaracter and create alcoves. Anyway the fireplace predates the 1985 regs about brown and blue asbestos so I’m petrified it contains something dangerous but I’m not sure where that would be. I’m having the house surveyed by an asbestos company (they were recommended to me by a laboratory where I’ve had things sampled before so I’m confident that they are reuputable) but I’m guessing I need to remove the wooden surround before the surveyor comes so that he can get proper samples, however I’m worried that in doing so I might disturb something. Has anyone got an experience of asbestos in a fireplace and know where it might be found? Particularly worried about asbestos boarding and asbestos cement behind the grate. Thanks
