Commute to Birmingham

We currently live around 20-30 minutes north of Birmingham. DH and I plan on moving to South Wales in the future as we have family there, although in the mean time we are looking to move nearer whilst still trying to maintain an easy(ish) commute into the city.

Does anybody recommend a rural-esque setting, not hugely over priced and in that general direction to settle for in the interim?

Driving or train? Somewhere along the Birmingham Cardiff line?

We live in Warwickshire. Rural (have to drive to local pub etc), but it's a relatively easy 30 / 40 min commute via car into central Birmingham. It's not Wales, but it is possible to enjoy rural living and a daily commute.

Train preferably or an easy drive to a train station. We would drive into wales though.

Thanks for the suggestions so far :)

I'd look in Dorridge - handy for the train into Brum & for the M42.
