This is a rough idea of new kitchen. I don't want wall cabinets but my Dh doesn't think it is ergonomically well designed. And we need more wall cabinets so not bending down all the time. It's the first time we've had a big kitchen and want to get it right. We also have a utility room for more storage and washing machine/dryer.

I'm sure it was your kitchen I saw and loved bax on the extensions thread. Maybe that were I got the idea

I like that there are no wall units but not sure about the floor units on the left running tight to the door. It looks off balance with the unit finishing short of the door to the right. But I can't work out how I'd balance it. So I'm a lot of use.

NurseryFightClub · 16/04/2018 19:54

Hi goat, it isn't to scale, I was planning on having it flush to the door with another tall unit, maybe a full height wine rack. We are early stages kitchen planner coming to measurements in a few weeks. So I totally get what you are saying.

Do you need the cabinets on the left? They do look a little lost and I like the idea of a clear run up to the doors. Where is your sink and hob going to go in that plan?

DustandRubble · 16/04/2018 20:06

Also if you have drawers in your units then the bending down is minimised.

NurseryFightClub · 16/04/2018 20:14

The cabinet on the left are for two single ovens, I could have them on the right. The sink and hob will be on the right hand side.the main work surface is on the island which is two meters long.. I don't want hob or sink on island.

Fab idea on the drawers Smile

I think it looks a little odd. Sorry OP. The cabinets on the left look a bit stranded and there's no real focal point - like a range cooker or a cooker hood, a sink in front of a window. That might be because they haven't put the details - it means it doesn't really look like a kitchen.

NurseryFightClub · 17/04/2018 08:18

The focal point of the whole room will be the island. It will have a worktop which is a cross section of stone so looks like art work.

How long will the run be with sink and hob on?

namechangedtoday15 · 17/04/2018 09:59

I don't think it works either. What is on top of the fridge freezer? The ovens on the left would be a pain if everything else (hob / sink etc) is on the right. You'll just be walking round the island / past the door all the time. I don't like American style ff at all, just my personal taste so I'd want to put the tall units (with side by side eye level ovens maybe) next to that to minimise it's dominance in the room, then have base units for the rest of that long run and along the door wall. I'd lose the left hand units altogether.

NotMeNoNo · 17/04/2018 19:23

Lovely big room!

I'd have a tall larder next to the fridge, the sink and dishwasher on the Rhs, the hob on the back wall not too near the corner, ovens in tall unit/s at the end of that run. I don't think the units on the L of the door add anything unless you want more storage.

It's useful to have wall cabinets near the dishwasher for glassware but plates can go in a deep drawer.

Base units can all have drawers or pull out interior fittings for better ergonomics.
