I don't know about the primary schools but the grammar schools near to Welling are very good. Bexley Grammar, Chislehurst and Sidcup are co-ed and BETHS (boys only), Townley (girls only). Your child would take the Bexley Test at the beginning of Year 6 and as long as your child reached the pass mark, they would then be offered a place according to distance mainly. Look at the Bexley website and eleven plus forum for further details.

Dartford has its own Grammar schools but there are other Kent grammar schools. The boys school is excellent and follows the IB. From Welling you would would need to be a high scorer in the Kent test to get a place.

Most people tutor their children from the beginning of Year 5.
