Wolverton good place to live?

We are looking at Wolverton area to buy a house.

The house price in Wolverton is reasonable, some outstanding/good primary.
But I see some negative comments about Wolverton, don't know the reason.

Can you please let me know what’s wrong in Wolverton? are there any good areas in Wolverton?

Thanks

I worked in Wolverton for 6 years at the railway works. The town was built as a railway town and the Victorian houses near the works where built for the workers. There are more modern houses and also some new builds. It generally has more character than Milton Keynes itself and the prices are reasonable for the area. It's a bit squashed in but communications are good and you are on the mainline to Euston and very close to central MK. There isn't a great deal to do in the evenings and the few pubs are a bit rough. Stony Stratford is a nicer place to live (a couple of minutes away) but is a lot more expensive. People I knew who lived in Wolverton really liked it and were very proud of the town's heritage and community spirit. Just choose the right area.

I don't live there but I do live in close by in Milton Keynes.
From what I know there is a very strong sense of community and for a small town has a lots of supermarkets and some great restaurants!

It has been dominated by Tesco, but Asda has moved in, Lidl is due to open soon and there are plans for a Aldi very close by too (this in addition to a lot of independent shops too) .

Some of the best independent restaurants in Milton Keynes are in Wolverton. There is a great Japanese, a fantastic Turkish restaurant and the Italian is fab too, plus loads of other smaller restaurants and takeways.

There are plans to do something with the old Agora (although this is still under consultation I believe)

As PP said there is a train station, and it only about 3 miles from Milton Keynes Centre.

If they were to get some more good food outlets and a couple of decent bars, I can see Wolverton being as desirable to live in as Stony Stratford before long.

Yes!!!
IMO obviously.....
Have lived here for nearly 20 years now pre and post kids. There are new and Victorian houses, shops, library and doctors within walking distance. Great sense of community with various things going on throughout the year.
Restaurant wise we have Turkish, Lebanese, Japanese and Italian as well as takeaways. (also shortly to have a tapas restaurant too)
Several pubs and a beer garden type thing
Train station is a short walk.
I love living in this town, there is a great mix of different communities. Have you had a walk round and a talk to people ? That's what we did prior to buying.
BTW Stony is nice too but you get less for your money house size wise

WhatATimeToBeAlive, happytoseeyou, Davegrohlsgirl - Many thanks for your support.
Now I got some idea about Wolverton.
I am moving to the UK in June, once I am there, I will go and talk to the people living there.

Hello

Reviving this old thread :)

We currently live in London but are considering a move to Milton Keynes where houses are more affordable. I wanted to ask regarding Wolverton as an area, is it recommended for raising a family, I have a 2 year old daughter so good nearby schools is important. Are there any other areas that are worth checking out? Our budget is around £300k for a 3 bed house.

Thanks

Hi All,

@bobnl did you end up moving to Wolverton? If so, what are your thoughts?

We are planning a move from London soon and I was wondering if we can get more on Wolverton. Is it safe?

Thanks!

Wolverton hasn't got quite the charm of stony stratford though it has the station plus tesco, as a and Lidl. I would go stony every time, places to eat, hairdressers, dentists, lower and middle schools, nice river walks, property more expensive than wolverton by Milton keynes standards.

For anyone asking this question in future, I've written a guide to living in Wolverton :) www.victorias-vintage.co.uk/2026/02/a-locals-guide-to-living-in-wolverton.html
