Do solicitors charge for contact?

This may be a bit of a stupid question...

Our buyers do not seem to be progressing. We feel our EA is brushing us off with excuses. If I contact our solicitor for an update will we incur a charge? I was planning on emailing to see if there had been any information passed on by their solicitor regarding the lack of progress.

Why not have a look at the engagement letter you signed for your solicitor? It will explain how they charge.

Typically, a solicitor will charge for reading/responding to a clients email.

have you agreed a fixed fee amount?
Some solicitors charge for time spent, but most conveyancing these days is done fixed fee.

If it is fixed fee I would certainly expect the type of email you are suggesting to be included in the fixed costs.

I have been through all of the paperwork, it does say that communication will mainly take place via email but does not mention a charge for this.

We have been provided with an estimated cost - not a fixed fee.

So still unsure.

Oh dear, you have signed up with sawyoucoming and sons. Conveyancing should always be fixed fee with clear conditions as to what is extra. It is bread and butter work.

Ea only gets paid when sold. Tell them to update, they work for you too.if nothing is happening your buyers may have given up anyway.
