Hi All!
We have a condensing boiler outside for oil fired central heating.
It has a tank for oil nearby.
A few weeks ago we got a delivery of oil and it looks like the oil delivery man did not replace the pin that went through the top of the cap to the tank. The cap blew off a few days later in a storm and I feared rain had got in.
Called boiler man, who tinkered with boiler and said everything was fine.
Boiler worked for a day or so and died.
Boiler man returns, tinkers longer.
Says boiler should be fine again, but to keep an eye on it.
Boiler dies.
We are due to go on holiday. On the day we leave the boiler man visits again, spends a lot of time draining the rain water from the tank and replaces the fuel pump.
Claims all is working well. We leave on holiday happily.
Return from holiday 2 weeks later.
House stinks of oil fumes.
There is a component of the boiler basically sitting in a pool of oil in the boiler house.
Dead grass near front of boiler where the boiler man had been working. Oil has soaked into part of the wall of the boiler house.
But mostly, the house stinks of oil.
We are exhausted.
Text boiler man.
Tomorrow finding alternative boiler man.
The guy is usually good. He installed the boilers a few years ago and services them every year.
I think what happened was the fix he put in place loosened and has been leaking oil for 2 weeks.
