Musky smell

I live in Normandy so not much difference in the flora and fauna. Can anyone give me an idea of what is producing a really strong musky smell in our downstairs bedroom/bathroom. They are the end of the (v old but totally rebuilt) house in a brick bit. The part that's above upstairs doesn't smell. So not a roof dweller I think.

Definitely musky not musty? Are you sure it's not dry rot or damp?

No definitely musky. The total renovation of everything was completed in the last year and the house was rebuilt from scratch by DH. (It's 14th century in parts). I can't think rot wouldn't have been noticed. Thanks though.
