Tumble Dryer woes

Hi all my tumble dryer has ground to a halt. It won't spin and just makes a whirring sound when I turn it on. Does anyone here have any experience or can give me a rough amount to expect to pay to fix? I'm worried I'll call someone out and get ripped off. Thank you :)

it might have a rubber band (like a fanbelt) between the motor and the drum that has broken or come off the pulley.

Tumbledriers don't have much to go wrong (except condensors and heatpump models)

If you are handy you could take the top or back off and have a look. There may be a youtube link if it is a popular model. probably have one. Otherwise try to get a personal recommendation for a local appliance repairman. Advertising websites are not personal recommendations.

For some reason parish magazines are often good sources for such local tradesmen, in the ads at the back.

might be video no. 12 "How to replace a tumble dryer belt on a Bosch dryer "

Or maybe it is some different fault.

Thank you Piglet John. It was the capacitor I want to say? He charged me £45. Better than the cost of a new one I guess!
