Hoping you can help a rather

Hmm I did type a while post but got an access denied pop up and it posted above. I’ll try again

I’m hoping you can help a rather dim witted home owner.

We currently have an electric fire in the living room. Would like a gas fire. We think there is a capped off gas pipe. What I need to know is who we call to investigate this and set it up to be working? Is it just a gas engineer? Feel v silly asking this but we’ve been going backwards and forwards and just need a help before phoning someone.

Also if anyone has a cost of how much it would cost if there is indeed a gas pip there (and if not) that would be great.

You need a Gas Safe Registered engineer.
