We are moving from London back to Durham where I'm originally from.

Looking for recommendations for removal companies please? Preferably one that is a reasonable price. We are moving the contents of our one bed flat. I'm also interested in companies that offer a packing service.

Thank you in advanceSmile

I'm looking for one too.
Prices I've been quoted are astronomical!

I used James Removals when I moved from SE London to Liverpool. They had a great packing service and were cheaper than the likes of Pickfords, and were the only ones that said straight out that my antique cabinet needed export wrapping, the others only said it when I pointed it out.

I've used Eco Movers three times. Not the cheapest but not the most expensive either. We chose them partly on recommendation, and partly because they offered proper export wrapping to protect our framed art. They do packing and unpacking services (or just packing if that's all you want).

Van Girls are no more, sadly. These chaps are fab though:

Sw12- I just got a quote from james removals- how many days did the packing/move take?

UnimaginativeUser · 26/03/2018 13:30

Try Clarks of Amersham. Don't necessarily worry that they're out of area to London. They moved colleagues of mine from NW London up to Yorkshire.

I know 2 people that used them and couldn't say enough about them, so I used them on my last move, and they were brilliant.

DON'T use Pickfords (I know people that work for removal companies, and the stories are not good), but do use a company that is BAR registered. Look at Checkatrade too. Their reviews are normally pretty reliable.

Veuveo - they took a day to pack, it was a two bed terrace and I had a lot of stuff!. I moved my stuff into storage and then up here so it took all day to pack into the van for storage but only because they have to note down everything in the crates. When they unpacked here it took them about four hours, including putting the beds and sofa together again.

I have quotes ranging from £4-8k!!

Southwest12 · 29/03/2018 14:30

I think James Removals were around £400 for the packing and then £1800 for the London to Liverpool move. That was for a full to bursting two bed terrace.

I can recommend Peglers - based in Southend but moved us from London to Home Counties without a hitch. They were also the cheapest of the three who quoted for us - moving from a 2 bed 1st floor flat to a 3-bed semi with full packing service (and we had a LOT of books) was about £1100 last year. £300 was for the packing - best £300 I've ever spent!

James are coming next week to check their online quote- they're the cheapest so far at 3.3k
