Buying in Stamford

Hello all

Does anyone live in Stamford? We are looking at buying a 3/4 bedroom house there - due to links to London and Cambridge.

Any areas to recommend or avoid?

Many thanks

Stamford is lovely, I live in a village about 7 miles away and visit regularly. Stamford itself is expensive and outdoor space / parking can be limited particularly in the town centre. There are lots of lovely villages surrounding it and prices are more reasonable. Are you looking only in Stamford or happy to look further out? Are you looking to rent or buy? What sort of budget do you have? Do you have school age children?

We are looking to buy and looking to spend £350k - £400. We have school aged children so looking for good schools. The issue is the commute... would the nearby villages offer similar links? Can you please recommend any surrounding villages? Thanks

Greetham is a lovely quiet village about 5 miles out of Stamford.

There is no direct train from Stamford to London, you would need to go to Peterborough which is a 20 minute drive & then 50 minutes into kings cross. There are lots of people that do commute to London from Stamford & the surrounding villages. There is one train an hour to Cambridge or it's an hour's drive depending on the a14.

You might struggle on that budget in Stamford itself, particularly the centre, but would easily get something in the villages or surrounding towns. Smaller towns to look for are Bourne, Market Deeping & Oakham. In terms of villages there are lots, ones like Ketton, Ryhall, Barnack all within a couple of miles & then you can go a bit further to places like langtoft, Maxey, Collyweston, Wansford, Clipsham, Thurlby & the Withams which are within 5-10 miles. If you go on rightmove & select within a 10 mile radius of Stamford you'll get a great selection of villages. The Rutland villages tend to be more expensive than the others.

Bourne Grammar school is very well regarded & there are lots of good primary schools in the area. Most of the villages have a good rated primary school. In Stamford itself you have the private boys & girls schools as well as the junior school.
