Kitchen diner - add TV/lounge area?

We're planning some work at last - yippee! We will have a 6m x 6m square for kitchen-diner. Dh thinks we should divide the dining side of the room to put in a ginormous couch and have it as a full living area. We have a separate sitting room that I think would become unused so I'd prefer to keep the space wide and open. In theory we could use the space for a bit and decide, but we won't fit the dining table I want and the couch he wants in the one area.

Could you have a dinning table and a couple of small comfy chairs instead of the sofa.
You need a table !
If your plan incorporates a breakfast bar sticking out perhaps get rid of that as you won't need it.

We don't have anywhere else to put a dinner table so we have agreed that will be there. I'm not too pushed about a breakfast bar although since we'll have an island it might make sense.

Dh is a giant, hence the want for a huge couch.
