Any tips to prevent burglars/vandalism?

My DH and I are shortly going to be moving to Liverpool. I am a member of several Liverpool Facebook groups and every day there are people posting that someone has or has tried to break into their house, or their car has been stolen. It's started to get me really worried, does anyone have any advice on how we can try to prevent this?

Old fashioned type steering lock for car puts them off your car. They’ll try to find an easier target.

Of course, you can’t deter anyone who’s really determined but most are opportunists.

I would look at the actual police crime statistics for the specific area you are moving to too. A FB group could give you a skewed picture of what things are like.
