Chislerhurst

We are considering moving to Chislerhurst . Is this a good area to live? Are trains reliable? What are schools like?

We live in Dulwich at the moment so not sure this is a good decision but we can buy a bigger house in Chislerhurst. Also, thinking of sending our children to Chislerhurst and Sidcup grammar school.

It is Chislehurst not Chislerhurst for a start.

Chis and Sid Grammar is fine if your kids pass the entrance exam.

Think St Nicholas Primary is well regarded.

Trains are reliable. You are moving 7 miles not 700 to Outer Mongolia

Chis&Sid (as it is locally known) is actually in Sidcup, but would be a 20-30 minute bus journey away from Chislehurst Parade and then I 5 minute walk.

My sister went to Chis&Sid and had a really lovely experience. I went to Chislehurst School for Girls (previously Beaverwood) and actually did better academically. Not bad for an old Comprehensive.

Not sure about Primary Schools.

Other than that it is your average suburban London town.

Thank you very much. This is very helpful. I guess I need to learn to spell it currently before we move; no wonder everyone abbreviate it.

Hi Chislehurst covers quite a large area, so very much depends what part you are looking at, schools are in the main all pretty good the parade & round by the duck ponds is very picturesque a few nice pubs & sainsburys, some very expensive boutiques.
The trains are fairly reliable, it’s very safe & lots of families live in the area, you could have a look at petts wood, West Wickham possibly Beckenham, all good family areas with good schools, depends on your budget.

The house we like is near Elmstead Woods station

We are moving from Dulwich so we will get more for our money I think but need to research the area better before we commit as want to make sure is the right move and we won't regret it

Yes defo need to research & visit the area, Elmstead wood area is lovely but can feel a bit out of the way, I would also maybe have a look at the other areas I mentioned, so could do a comparison of area/price & facilities.

Beautiful area. Bickley especially if you can afford it!
Lots of pubs there still, very Dulwichesque if you ask me....but remember, bigger house, bigger bills!
Grow your own veg, buy some chickens and go solar : )
