Art Deco renovation

Does anyone fancy helping me with ideas for redecorate my Art Deco home in an Art Deco style but to still look ‘modern’
I have done my lounge and kitchen.
Now I have one box room and two double bedrooms to do.

The house is quite obviously Art Deco from both outside and in with lots of original features in already but ideally I would like to keep a modern look. Ie maybe some people might think I desecrated the original tiled olive green fireplace by painting it black and white but hey ho you try looking at an olive green fireplace all night...

I have a really crap budget so only have £2k to do all 3 rooms may have to pretend box room doesn’t exist

Thanks! --
Feel free to contribute unlimited budget options too...--

Have you looked at some inspiration in places like Eltham Palace or the Miami Art Deco district? Do you know what Art Deco influences you'd like to incorporate?

artdecoco · 08/03/2018 00:29

Well I’ve done the black and white thing in my kitchen and lounge but bedrooms I’m finding more difficult.
I’ve got a fan mirror hanging over the fireplace in one but it has a curved wall and is a right pain to think where on earth you put furniture
Thank you, I’ll take a look at your suggestions

Any pictures of the inside you want to do? Who’s going to be using these rooms? Function of these rooms? Existing furniture? Etc

DoubleHelix79 · 08/03/2018 05:55

No suggestions but I'm so jealous - would love to live in an Art Deco house! Hope you have fun with the renovation.

Thank you! I love my house which is part of the reason I want to treat it to an update from the cheap ikea stuff that’s currently in there! (First home!) I will upload shape of room then tidy up complete mess in bedrooms and upload a pic...

My suggestion would be

  1. spend 1k on fact-finding trip to Brussels
  2. not sure

This is the curved room I’m trying to find the measurements but longest walk about 15ft annoyingly there’s a radiator on the same side as the doors on.

How exciting. I adore Art Deco :). Have you seen the Art Deco bungalow episode on George Clark? Wallpaper is a good way to add colour. I wouldn’t go over the top though. Midland hotel in morecombe May give you some inspiration. Look forward to seeing the photos!

C75 what a grand plan but alas I feel I may not get the results I want...

So I have put up one of a fireplace in one room.
And a black bed I’m hoping to keep even though I’m not that keen but thought might be able to incorporate into an Art Deco theme and the grey bed which although is only a cheap divan I think I can work in the room around it to make it a bit prettier... (did I mention I like pretty too !)

I’m happy to look for second hand stuff but would ideally like it to look modern but fit into the Art Deco theme.
One room is rectangular 14 x 11

Are you colours silver/grey and white? Maybe a bit of wallpaper? bradbury.com/dfw_720-platinum.html
www.thibautdesign.com/catalog/product/details/product/la_farge_t35198/material/wallpaper/colorway/grey_45/?s=1
With seating similar to this.

And black and white picture in frames to add a fresher modern look?

Henrysmycat · 08/03/2018 10:03

And a light fixture.
Bhs online have some really nice affordable ones like www.bhs.com/lighting/all-ceiling-lights/pendants/large-ursula-ball-pendant-brass/p/30000742
Or something but more modern

Happy to wallpaper, also happy to change the colour scheme but I’m kind of lumped with these beds in black and grey.
Thanks I will take a look!

Henry’s that chair! Lovely. £700 though. But is lovely... ohh I’m really going to have to pull my budget together aren’t I, else I’m going to spend £2k on about two items hehe.
I wish...

What are you going to use the room for? Just bedrooms? Beds; you can work around them. Grey will work better than black.
You can do it on your budget but be prepared to wait and stalk eBay, sales, etc. Gimme more info. I’m second year interior design student and I’m stalling doing my homework. Grin

Henrysmycat · 08/03/2018 10:14

That bay window is a dream. Is the bed opposite the fireplace?

artdecoco · 08/03/2018 10:40

Haha Henry’s don’t let me delay your studies! Jealous of your subject choice
The rooms will be spare. Box room is dd room but she’s still small so will probably selfishly stick the budget on the other two bigger rooms.
Ohhh boo Mumsnet. I tried to upload another pic but apparently 6 is the limit.

You could staple some fabric over the headboards if you want a change from the grey or black. Ice cream colours with metallic art quite art deco, mint green with rose gold, baby blue, powder puff pink and you could do some great opulent gold pineapple /palm tree accessories? Lots of modern geometric wallpapers would work too.
