best tiles for walk in shower floor

I need to put showers on a walk in shower floor. This shower relies on a pump so drainage is key. I've read that smaller tiles are better for the floor as they make it easier to create a good drainage flow.

Anyone got experience with this. The tile people tell me this is true, the drain man says it;s true = but the builder insists big tiles are better...
your experience needed...

Can you not get a slim line shower tray?

Tiles have to be angled towards the drain. Typically a walk in wet room type shower will have a long rectangular drain. The tiles must be angles towards it for obvious reasons. Small tiles are easier to handle when doing this. They can look a bit dated, so choose wisely. If drainage is key, get a big drain and make sure the water goes into the drain efficiently.

You should tank a much bigger area than the shower too.

We had this and opted for small stone mosaic tiles in the shower tray we had a lot of issues with tilers during our renovation project the reason I went for the mosaics was for drainage purposes they can get a better run off angle on smaller tiles also they come up easier if you do have shower tray issues in the future.

but won't mosaic trap dirt and water?

Mosaic are miserable to clean. And they need a lot of cleaning. Never again.

Bought 1 metre square tiles. Look fab. Difficult to lay. If you need to get any sort of slope there is less wriggle room.....if you use smaller ones then it’s easier to get the gradient. But mosiacs are a nightmare:all that grout to clean and my metre square ones look fantastic. My tiler hates me though 😀

I’ll send a photo if you want of how they angled it.....in between swearing and muttering😀

I meant the ruler was swearing, not me!

Tiles are a metre square so you can see here how many cuts needed to get gradient.

Not had a problem with our mosaics we did opt for a protective coating on them as we live in a hard water area
