Is this the norm? Mortgage application.

I'm currently applying with Nationwide .
Next week I am onto week 4 since full application went in. Valuation has been done, they've got all the paperwork they require.
Every time I call for an update they say it's paused & send an email to my consultant.
Still nothing!!

That sounds like an incredibly long time to process a mortgage application - do you have to go with Nationwide?

I'm worried going elsewhere incurs further credit checks etc. I'm a FTB.

I am currently also waiting over 4 weeks with Nationwide. I had a managed decline and was offered £12,000 less and was asked to send in a letter for child maintenance. That was almost 2 weeks ago now and last update at the beginning of the week was waiting for the letter to be signed off.

I already have my current mortgage with Nationwide so a bit perplexed. With the weather being how it has been I imagine that they have less staff on, hence longer waiting times. Doesn’t make it any easier though does it? Fingers crossed we both get our mortgage offers asap. 🤞

I couldn't wait any longer with instructing solicitors so paid for searches this week.
Nationwide said I'd get my offer that day or the day after, I didn't so rang them. Again it's still 'paused' I'm looking at least the 12th of March now! Wtf!!

We had this and I'm sorry to say were eventually declined. We got £250 goodwill from them after I put in a complaint about the amount of time we had wasted.
We then went through a broker to Barclays and was accepted within about 10 days.
It was such a stressful time but it was all ok in the end. I was worried about credit rating as well but it really wasn't an issue. I would recommend using a broker if possible.

I’d be wary of paying for searches if you haven’t had the offer through :(
