When can we decorate a new build? We were told a year but the show houses are always decorated straight away.....???

The house should be decorated when you move in?

A year! That’s madness. Maybe a week.

You do sometimes get cracks in new builds but I think you would get them if they were painted or not.

They are usually painted a neutral colour by the builder.

It is painted white throughout but I want some colour and wallpaper.

I was told not to for 6-12 months to let my house dry out. Have decided to listen to the builders and refrain from covering up still drying walls

We got a few cracks around the 6 month mark so I'm glad we waited to decorate. Magnolia walls are boring but it's better to let them dry out properly, then fill cracks and decorate when it's settled

I did it straight away even though DH said we should wait a year. Haven’t been any problems at all

Should’ve said that I’ve been in 2 years now

Was the house literally finished the day before you moved in? Or has there been some time for it to dry anyway?
