Composite front doors - Solidor, Xtreme or other?

I posted this in another section but there doesn't seem to be much traffic so I'm trying here.

We are looking to get a new front door. We were going to use Solidor, but before committing we have done a quick Google and seen lots of horrendous reviews.

So we then looked at Xtreme door which don't seem to have much by way of reviews.

Has anyone got any feedback on these please, or can suggest another company? (Although I am already feeling like a zombie from staring at door after door!!)

Rockdoor? We had one fitted at our old house. Lots of different styles and you choose the door furniture you want. They will be able to give you a list of suppliers in your area.

Where about to commit to purchasing a Solidor (configured, just waiting for the final price from the vendor) but you've spooked me, whats the gist of the negative reviews?

skippy67 · 18/02/2018 10:47

We have a Rockdoor. Love it.

namechangedtoday15 · 18/02/2018 11:47

We have a Solidor - I did quite a bit of research and didn't see negative feedback - is that the product (door) itself or fitting? Ours has been in about 9 months maybe. It's beautiful, solid, just everything we expect. It was between Solidor & Rockdoor but Solidor came recommended by builder and engineer friend.

4yearsnosleep · 18/02/2018 11:53

We have a solidor and it's fantastic. It's only been in since December, but it's solid, the locks seem really secure, it looks great & there's not a draft at all.

Scootingthebreeze · 18/02/2018 12:50

Thanks for feedback.
Humpty - lots of people saying they doors warped and someone said they are replacing their 7th slab (whatever one of those is!). Problems with hinges, cracking outer

From the gist of my reading, it seems composite doors in general are a bad idea if your front is South facing as the combination of rain and Sun causes warping and speeded up wear. Particularly on dark colours

We're north facing but looking at getting a dark door so I'm hoping this combo will be ok.

Another common theme was saying Solidor have poor customer service.

It's freaked me out as we are doing a big rennovation project and money is tight so I'm worries at spending out in a door then wishing I hadn't!

Will explore Rockdoor as not come across that one thanks.

Good that some people are happy with Solidor even after some months have passed.

Namechanged- is your door South facing and/or a dark colour?

We are North/ North East facing but we're also in Manchester so full on sunshine not really prevalent whichever way we faced Grin.

This is ours

Not a great photo - it's the London door iirc in charcoal.

HardAsSnails · 18/02/2018 13:57

We had a Rockdoor fitted before Christmas and it is lovely.

LapdanceShoeshine · 18/02/2018 14:57

We have a sort of budget version of Rockdoor - the company who installed it did offer Rockdoor too, but recommended the one we have & it has been absolutely fine. It cost about £800 fitted.

In for nearly 4 years now, no problems; pale green, W-facing. (In Lancs though so hours of blazing sun not a problem Grin)

Trouble is I can’t remember the company’s name. Will try to find out tomorrow!

We had an Endurance composite door fitted 2 years ago and cannot fault it x

Another one here with a Rockdoor, we have the Portland Beacon which we abosloutly love. We have an unusually large hallway which used to be very dark so we were after a good front quality door that allowed loads of natural light and the Portland Beacon fit the bill perfectly. We were going to use an online company to supply and fit but decided to get some quotes from a few local double glazing companies at the last minute and were pleasantly surprised when one of them came in £400 cheaper than the cheapest online company quote, so do shop around as you can get some fab deals.

They are very solid and very well made -have had ours nearly 5 years now and we’ve had zero issues.

Scootingthebreeze · 18/02/2018 22:39

Thanks, am currently googling Rockdoor!

We have Solidor in 2 properties. Oldest door has been in 18 months and is wonderful. Bought the second and it was installed in Jan, again happy with it, no issues and the people who recommended us still love their Solidor too.

I have a Rockdoor. I used very secure doors to install mine. It’s nearly 4 years old and hasn’t faded at all.

Leemo1234 · 06/04/2018 22:42

We had an extreme door installed yesterday. Early days but very impressed. Our joiner sorted it and installed it. We gave him a Solidor broucher and showed what we wanted and he got the same design etc trade on an extreme. Must admit, it’s superb, highly tested and with really warranties including 25 years on door furniture including rust.

bonjovigirl · 07/04/2018 08:11

We had a Solidor fitted around 6 months ago. It’s in dark grey and south facing (but with an overhang porch) and really happy with it so far. We almost got spooked by the online reviews but talked to a few independent installers to reassure us. We also looked at Endurance and Rockdoor. Agree with pp that worth shopping around as we had differences of over £1,000 between quotes for the same door

Solidor and Rockdoor

N1ipniso · 31/07/2018 08:55

We've gone with XtremeDoor and they are really good, they look more like a timber door than the Solidor and Rock Door which have plastic cheap looking skins to them. I also hear Solidor can warp and bow causing the locks to stick. Wink

This is a very old thread but anyone considering Solidor may find it and may want to see my door on www.notsosolidor.co.uk. Its 7 years old but the Solidor 10 year warrantee won't help as I'd have to go through the original installer. They now tell me the original installer wasn't one of their approved installers. News to me 7 years on...

Our front door is Rockdoor and back door Solidor. They are both lovely but the back door is a stable door and very useful to keep the dog in but let some air into the kitchen
