Building insurance

Can anyone advise me? My building’s insurance premium is quite high so I’m looking to change it. However, we are about to undertake some building work so I’m wondering if I should wait until that is completed?

Some policies will cover you for ongoing building works (our Hiscox policy does). It would be worth shopping around, you may well find that you have to declare building works to your current insurer.

Thanks. I would declare them to the current insurer, I just wonder if it’s better to stick with them during the works as I’ve had this policy for 20 years, and then change once the work is done, or will it not make any difference?

We are having renovations currently and it severely limited our options on insurers on a new policy. I would say notify your current policy holder then cancel and change when the work is done.

Thanks feejee. That’s useful to know.
