Limestone floor - disaster with kids?

Help! I've just fallen in love with an bought a dijon tumbled floor for our new bathroom from Mandarin stone. The girl then told me I can only use PH neutral cleaners. I use lashings of bleach currently in the bathroom - 2 kids under 5 and another on the way. They have so many accidents and generally miss of the loo (why??!) potty spillages etc.

Will I be able to keep the bathroom stink free using a ph neutral cleaner? Or should I use this limestone somewhere else in the house and just get vinyl/tiles which are easier to keep clean?

Any advice gratefully received. gutted as floor very expensive and too late to return now.

Can you seal it somehow?

MinnieMousse · 15/02/2018 08:20

I have stone tiles but not limestone. I hate bleach and never use it to clean. I use a steam mop on our bathroom tiles.

I have limestone tiles all through the kitchen and family area. They are sealed so I can use a steam mop on them or I use method floor cleaner and a microfibre mop. No problems here.

Thank you MinnieMousse & almostbutnotquite - what is a steam mop?
Do you find with this you aren't left with any smells?

I also hate bleach & in life pre-children never used it - but we currently have a carpeted bathroom and I've found it's the only thing that tackles the smell of accidents. Perhaps with stone these problems will disappear!

Is zoflora ph neutral - that works in our house for potty spillage etc - I love the lavender and Fresh cotton.

Bowerbird5 · 15/02/2018 20:56

And the lemon mmmm! Discovered Zoflora on Mumsnet.

almostbutnotquite · 15/02/2018 21:23

Yes, that's the one! It's brilliant stuff just squirt it on and follow with a microfibre mop, really quick and smells good. A steam mop is filled with water and steam cleans the floor as you go with so other chemicals.

I had a huge area of limestone in a previous house. I had a puppy accident and used zoflora after cleaning. The floor stained! Don't know of it was the puppy wee or zoflora.

www.mandarinstone.com/advice-support/sealing/. It tells you how to seal it there. I think I'd be trying to return it though. Did they sell it to you as suitable for use in a bathroom?

SplishSplashSplat · 16/02/2018 09:59

Gosh, I really would return it. You or the kids will end up ruining it. I ruined a floor like that once just spilling something that wasn't Ph neutral and not realising until there was a giant white spot on the floor.

Runnerbeanlover · 17/02/2018 17:07

Oh dear. I will see what I can do. They sold it as suitable for a bathroom. I could use it on a corridor instead and get tiles for the bathroom.....
