Landlords and renting- obligations question

Right, we have been renting our home for 4 years and the smoke alarms are broken( i have replaced new batteries constantly, and the bloody things keep going off all the time!)
Been onto letting agent, who said the landlord is not under any obligation to replace smoke alarms.Me and dh think this is incorrect.We thought it was a legal requirement now if you rent a house out it has to have working smoke alarms? Are we right??

Check with your local fire brigade, certainly in this area, smoke alarms are fitted free.

get the free ones fitted from the fire brigade, with a 10 year battery ! and they will be fitted in the best place
