Relocation around Preston, Lancashire

Hello,
Me and my family are looking at relocating from Ashford, Kent to the Preston area and are struggling to figure out what area would be best for us.
We have looked at Ribbleton, Blackburn and Accrington based on rental properties available, I was wondering if anyone had some advice for us at all?
We are a family of 4 looking to rent a 2 bed preferably 3 bed house, close to a good school with a garden if possible, would like to be close to town as I don’t drive but partner does.
Maximum rent around £600 if possible too.
Any advice on best family areas would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you 😊

Preston is now a city.
Fulwood or Broughton are family friendly areas.

Chorley is a good area with lots of parks and green space, and good schools. Transport is also good. Have a look at Euxton; Preston, Wigan, Manchester and Liverpool are easily accessible from the station there. Chorley town centre is being redeveloped and will have a cinema, restaurants and some large shops including M&S food hall etc.

@mutiny, M&S have pulled out, but chorley town centre still has booths Smile chorley seems to have loads of buses and of course the train to Preston/blackpool and manchester/Bolton. Leyland has a nice park, but the train station is at other end and not sure about buses from there.

My other half is from Preston originally so have spent a bit of time around there. Longton is a great village feel, as are the other areas, such as Tarleton, Much Hoole etc. a bit further away from Preston, but lovely if you're looking for the village areas. Penwortham is also really nice and can get good value for your money. Chorley is a good town with good transport links and everything you need practically on your doorstep.

Garstang is a lovely area to move to, catteral, Broughton are also very nice.

I’d try either Penwortham or Fulwood first. Both are within a short bus ride to the city centre but have their own shops, pubs, restaurants etc. Penwortham has more of a villagey feel though and traffic is probably marginally better (traffic in Preston is not great!).

Both have absolutely top notch schools (in fact, Preston and South Ribble have some of the best state schools in the country) and lots of nice parks.

A bit further out are villages around Leyland (Croston, Much Hoole etc) but public transport is not amazing.

I also like Chorley, which again has good schools and is much quicker to get to Manchester from via train or bus.

Or if you fancy the coast, St Anne’s and Lytham are lovely.

Oh I do miss the North West. The people are amazing. Such a brilliantly dry sense of humour and so friendly.

Thank you all for your advice so far, we will be travelling up to have a look at the areas at the end of April so will definitely try and get to some of the places mentioned here 😊
