Induction hobs - steam - extractors

Hi

Due to get a 60cm induction hob fitted into new kitchen. Been reading and seen that it's recommended to get a wider extractor.

Seems induction hobs due to them not creating heat, the steam tends to spread out more than the usual type of hobs.

Anyone experience of inductions ? Do they do this

Thanks !

I haven't noticed this but they do bring a pan of water to the boil very quickly.

We’re in a rental so obviously just got the kit that came with the property but your post just made me have an ‘ahhh’ moment. We do have an extractor with a wider glass rim - an extension around the actual metal extractor IYSWIM, which now I think about could well be because of the induction hob. That said, when I’m cooking I don’t really notice the steam being different to previous gas cookers.

I believe it's the heat of the ceramic ring or gas that creates the uplift to move the steam up in an orderly fashion.

Induction creates no heat, so the steam is a bit more wayward and tends to drift sidewards. Or so it reads on the sites I seen !

I wasn't sure what it's actually like in real life, if it was much different really. Or just in some boffins head with their calculator and charts !

"With induction hobs, steam travels sideways as well as up, so you’ll need a hood that’s wider than your hob. For example, if you have a 60cm induction hob, choose a 90cm extractor"

I have an induction hob and have not noticed the steam spreading out. Mine just goes straight up into the same width hood. Previously had a regular ceramic hob.

I have a 75cm hob and a 90cm downdraft extractor and I thought it would look odd but it doesn’t.
Not noticed steam being wayward though.
