Help me with my hot water

Mumsnetters, I’ve just moved into a rented property and can’t for the life of me figure out how to turn on the hot water. I’ll post some photos and if anyone can shed some light I’d be forever grateful!

The actual control panel thing isn’t even on so I can’t programme it. Have no idea how to turn it on, or if it even works!

Looks like your on economy7. Have you got storage heaters?

RavenLG · 01/02/2018 21:37

Is there no instructions? Your landlord / Estate Agents should know

BarbaraOcumbungles · 01/02/2018 21:41

If you are you’ll find that your water heats up over night when the electricity is cheaper. It’s uaually between 11pm and 6 am I think. You’ll find it comes on automatically if you leave both those switches on. There will probably be a boost somewhere. Have you tried turning that dial on the side of the timer?

AutumnalTed · 01/02/2018 21:46

Yes to storage heaters, there’s nothing showing on the display panel it looks like it’s turned off

It might not come on till tonight. Is it your first night in the property?

BarbaraOcumbungles · 01/02/2018 21:47

We’re those switches both off when you moved in?

AutumnalTed · 01/02/2018 21:47

And no there’s no instructions Confused

It is my first night here, and all the switches were off when I moved in.

Leave them both on and your water will heat up over night. Both switches for your storage heater will need to be left on too.

Is there another dial/timer thing anywhere?

AutumnalTed · 01/02/2018 21:52

Okay thankyou! Not that I can see at all, I’ve had a look

I don’t know how that particular timer works but the link Demented poster should help. For tonight I’d leave the dial on whatever it was on earlier on or auto if you’ve been twiddling and can’t remember Smile

Is it a HA property? If it is they may have an energy champion who might be able to help or you could ask one of your neighbours how they use theirs.

AutumnalTed · 01/02/2018 22:00

No it’s privately rented, I’ll leave the switches on overnight and see if it’s warm in the morning. If not I’ll ring the estate agents and see if they can get hold of the landlady, or beg upstairs Grin

Just leave the night switch on. That is your economic 7 water heater. Will heat water over night.

The other switch is for a boost of hot water in the day time. But it'll be expensive to use.

If you've a good tank (looks like it is) the water will stay hot all day and beyond.

BarbaraOcumbungles · 01/02/2018 22:06

Economy 7 takes a bit of getting your head round but once you've got the hang of it you'll be fine :) people hate storage heaters but a lot of the time they don't understand how they are supposed to be used. It's worth doing some research.

AutumnalTed · 01/02/2018 22:33

Thankyou so much, will post tomorrow and let you know if it worked and definitely will do some reasearch on this too Grin
