Kitchen fitting costs

Our builder has quoted £5-6k to fit our kitchen (2 x 3m run of units plus 2m breakfast bar). I (perhaps naively!) was expecting this to be much less, closer to £2k. I haven't decided which company to get the kitchen from but probably either Howdens or DIY Kitchens.

Beforw I go back to the builder to query this, I'd like to get a feel of whether this really is an unreasonable amount. Can you tell me what you paid for kitchen fitting? We're based in the South East.

Thanks in advance!

We got quoted 2K for ready assembled (like DIY) kitchen units including electrics etc. If that's just for fitting it sounds ridiculous. We're SE as well.

Thanks Tika, I thought so too.

I've just had a quote from ikea, 1.8k for a comparable run plus a couple of larder cupboards. That included a couple of corner cabinets and double cabinets though so surprisingly few cabinets, and appliances are freestanding. It looked like they priced per cabinet rather than per metre.

But your builder will say you'll get a better kitchen from him.

Yes I'm sure he'll tell me he's worth every penny!

We were quoted £4K from Wren for a kitchen costing around £14k. Even the saleswoman rolled her eyes. We said no thanks and apart from the granite worktop, DH fit it himself although it has taken a few months
I believe £2k is the norm around here. North West.

We’re having an extension built inc fitting a kitchen similar size to yours and our builder has quoted £1650 plus vat for fitting it.
