Hi mums, I'm considering moving to Welling, Bexleyheath, Sidcup or south ofvBarnehurst station. My dd is 8 and my ds is 3. We're looking for good secondary schools, apart from the grammar's. I would be grateful if you give me more details about which part of Welling, Sidcup and Bexleyheath is fone for families with young children. Also is the area south of Barnehurst train station OK? Our priority is to find the good school ( primary and secondary) in a save and family friendly area.

Thank you so much in advance!

I actually live in Welling (have done all my life).

I live in South Welling (near Falconwood Station) and I think it is a great, affordable area, to bring up a family.

Most of the Welling primary schools are excellent and our choice with regard to secondary schools around here is fantastic. Harris Academy in Falconwood has a good reputation as does Hurstmere (boys). I have friends with children at Welling Secondary who say it is fantastic. If you are Catholic then St Thomas More (actually in Greenwich borough) is good as is St. Catherine's for girls. Obviously it is an eleven plus area and there are several excellent grammar schools to choose from if DCs do well enough in the tests.

DD is now at uni but went to one of the local grammar schools and DS actually goes to a school "over the border" in Greenwich because it was the best for him.

Hi,
Thank you so much for the provided information. We've got an appointments to view a houses at Ivedon Road and Vaughan Road. This area is north of the station. Do you think that is family safe and ok for foreigners?

Best regards,
Mum0007

I'll be honest, I don't know that side of Welling very well as I am in South Welling but I'd hope that all of Welling is ok for foreigners. I don't feel it is a racist area at all if that's what you mean but I am 'white british' myself so wouldn't directly experience it I suppose.

I certainly feel that the whole area is very multi cultural. There is a large Nigerian community who attend my church for instance.

Hi,

Many thanks for your honest reply. Just one more quick question - which line divides south from north Welling, is it Shooters Hill or the railway?

It's normally considered to be the railway.

Good luck with your viewings.
