suggestions needed for large desk / workspace

Hi all

We're planning to install a desk / workspace along the full length of one wall of our family room. The wall is 4m long and is external.

Our original plan was to use laminate worktop or similar, with two Ikea Besta units underneath at either side, leaving a large footwell in between, and possibly further Besta units in a column at one end and/or as overhead units. I attach a photo of the sort of thing we would like.

We are now concerned that such a massive desk will need quite significant support, which will detract from the minimalist look we are trying to achieve. I assume it has to be self-supporting (in the sense that it will not be supported by any under-desk units we install) and so will need some kind of legs or brackets under it but we wouldn't want these to be visible, insofar as that's possible.

Has anyone managed to build a desk of similar dimensions and if so how did you solve the need for support? Is there a lighter material we could use for the desk which would work? Or alternatively has anyone got any (not too expensive) bespoke desk furniture companies which you could recommend?

Many thanks for any assistance.
