Linked terrace extension dilemma

We are planning a single storey extension. According to the building surveyor, if we do a full width extension we will lose the side access (to left of the gate is a shared brick shed). It seems silly to have side access and not be able to use it.

Has anyone done an single storey extension on this type of property? Also any ideas to achieve this type of extension while keeping the side access will be appreciated.

The other alternative is an extension spanning the width of the existing kitchen, which is approximately 2.8m wide.

You’ve not made yourself very clear, but side access is worth a lot in my view and I would try to keep it. Having built extensions and done landscaping in houses both with and without it, let me tell you what a nuisance it is to have to carry all materials through the house and all rubbish back out.

The people who owned this house before us built over the side access. Such a shame. Don't do it!
