New windows

Our wreck of a house needs new windows and I have NO IDEA what is fair in terms of price or if there is any real difference between the most and least expensive versions of what look like identical windows to me. Can anyone shed any light on what a fair price for non fancy double glazed uPVC windows would be?

How many windows do you have?

BinkyRidesForth · 23/01/2018 22:19

4 that need replacing (for some reason half the windows are double glazed... badly, but they'll do for now). 2x 3 panes, 1 double pane bathroom window and a tiny cloaks window.

We spent £4K on new windows throughout the house for 8 windows. We got three quotes and went for a really good local company. I’d steer clear or national ones as they can be really annoying! I wanted their best price at quote not be told a price and then keep
Offering lower. Really annoying!

Yes we have had a salesman round from one of the main 3 and the hard sell tactics are really putting me off! Started off at 4x the price and was really pushing for a decision on the spot which made me really uncomfortable, but DH is worried you don't know what you're getting with a local company (as in some will be amazing but some may not be...). It's so hard figuring all of this out! We're also trying to choose a new kitchen at the moment and am a bit overwhelmed with it all... not that it isn't exciting but I would very much like to wave a magic wand and for it all to be done (preferably
for free).

We paid 4650 ish for 10 windows a front door and back door triple glazing. We also went with a local installer he did a good job. The windows are guaranteed by the manufacturer we have the certificate.
