A bit tricky because B is much bigger. I'd tend to go for bigger if you can afford it. But I'm not convinced it's the best arrangement.

If you have DC I would be tempted to go for the floor plan with 2 sitting rooms so you can have the front one as a tidy adult sanctuary without toys and crap all over the floor.

Do you need a study though? Or would the spare room be big enough for a double bed as might be a bit pointless if not?

A don't like reception 2 with no window

B is a much more impressive space. The only thing about B is the windowless room.

Any pointers on suggestions to improve B would be much appreciated.

The garden is generous so not worried about B taking up too much space.

A doesn't work for me as it only has one seating area. But if you remove the wall to the study/guest room and make it a sofa/snug area instead then A is good.

However I presume you need a guest room? In which case it has to be B (I guess the middle reception doubles as a guest room). However I'd redesign the extension so it has space for a sofa somewhere near the kitchen, and I don't think the kitchen area needs to stick out quite so far.

The way to improve the middle reception in option B is to have angled skylights in the extension roof, right where the extension meets the middle reception, just past the folding doors. The light will go straight into middle reception (at least the back half of it). Esp if you are south facing.

B but I would only keep reception room 1 and I’d knock out reception room 2 totally

Yes, but you'd loose half the length of the hall Tweed and the WC would have to be shoved down towards front door.
