K-rend or sand and cement

I’m torn over what to render my house with. K-rend is all the rage as it has less chance of cracking but I’ve also heard that the finish isn’t very smooth and can also get quite dirty. But sand and cement could crack quicker.
I need a builders opinion! Help. Is pigletjon around these days?

Oh Moving - we are just mulling over the same dilemma. Coupled with not being able to find anyone local to do the traditional re render. Ours is falling apart and am not sure K rend will be enough. Absolutely no help whatsoever to you but watching hopefully Smile

We've just been through the same decision process. Our builder recommended going with sand and cement with the addition of lime to prevent it from cracking. He doesn't like the finish of k-rend as much and said that the colours don't tend to look as good as painted render. The obvious downside is that it will need repainting at some point. I'm really happy with the end result.

I was going to have white k-rend then paint it. My builder says he likes the finish of K rend but I can’t find any pics to show it off properly. Could you post a pic of your house with sand and cement?

Someone is coming to give us a quote for the k rend. Am leaning more towards Betty's plan. The never repainting of k rend appealed to me but not if I don't like the colour Grin On the other hand we are pretty ancient and liked the idea it would probably see us out...

But what about white k-rend and then painting to your choice?

We've also been looking at k-rend, however next door had theirs done about 6 months ago and it's filthy in places so quite off putting.

We had one builder who advised there is a new product on the market that's better than k-rend as the finish is better but for the life of me I haven't been able to find out what it is.

I chose K-Rend and very happy with it.I got samples from the company and there were really helpful so talk directly to them.

Finish has been great.I think if you will live there a long time its worth it.

We have k rend and I like the finish. It has got a bit of algae growth in it though which comes off with some mound and mildew remover. We are about to paint another wall rendered in white k rend and the paying had gone on very well in the areas I’ve tested.
